SpeakCove is made by an independent developer. This policy covers the SpeakCove app for iPhone and iPad and this website. The app needs no account, so we never know who you are.
Your Documents Stay on Your Device
Reading, text extraction, document scanning (OCR with Apple Vision) and voice synthesis all run on your iPhone or iPad. They work in airplane mode. Your documents are never uploaded to us.
Features That Use the Internet
A few optional features go online. Each sends only what it needs:
Book store and paper search
Your search terms go to api.speakcove.com, our own caching proxy on Cloudflare. It forwards the query to Project Gutenberg's catalog (via gutendex.com), arXiv and Semantic Scholar, and does not log requests. Paper lookups also go directly to api.openalex.org and api.unpaywall.org; those requests carry our contact address (api@speakcove.com), not yours. Books and papers you download come straight from their sources, such as gutenberg.org, arxiv.org or doi.org.
iCloud sync
If iCloud is on, your library and settings sync through your own iCloud account (CloudKit and iCloud key-value storage). Apple stores this data; we cannot read it.
Purchases
The Premium unlock is processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details.
Feedback
The optional feedback board at speakcove.fider.io is a separate service with its own privacy policy. You only share what you choose to post.
No Analytics, Tracking or Ads
The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, tracking SDKs or advertising, in both the free and Premium versions. We do not build profiles, fingerprint devices or collect your location.
Children's Privacy
SpeakCove collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
This Website
speakcove.com uses Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are read. Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them in the cookie banner. Until then, Google Consent Mode keeps them off and Google receives only cookieless usage signals such as page views, device type and approximate location, under Google's privacy policy. You can change your choice anytime with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. Cloudflare hosts the site and processes standard request data, such as your IP address, to serve and protect it.
The free online reader at speakcove.com/text-to-speech runs the voices in your browser: the text you paste and the files you open are never uploaded. The voice model comes from speakcove.com, and the speech and PDF engines (ONNX Runtime and PDF.js) come from the jsDelivr CDN, which sees your IP address like any web server. Google Analytics records that you pressed Play and which voice and language you chose, but never your text. A paper you pick from the shelf on the homepage downloads straight from arxiv.org, which also sees your IP address.
