How much does Peech cost? Peech is free to download, and Premium is an auto-renewing subscription. We opened Peech's paywall on an iPhone on October 24, 2026. It offered three plans: one year with 3 days free, six months, or one week. There was no monthly plan. Peech's US App Store listing shows Premium purchases from $3.99 to $99.99, including $6.99, $19.99, $69.99 and $99.99, without naming the billing periods. Audeus, a competing reader app, reported $6.99 a week, $19.99 a month or $99 a year in August 2026. Plans and prices can differ by country. Paid plans come with a monthly allowance of new audio, and Peech does not publish its free-tier limits. SpeakCove, the app behind this page, is free with 2 voices; Premium is a one-time $14.99.

Peech and SpeakCove both read your documents aloud on iPhone and iPad, but they are built differently. Peech generates audio with cloud AI voices (it says 200+ voices and 60+ languages), also runs on Mac, Android and the web, and can import Kindle books. SpeakCove runs its 10 neural voices on your device, needs no account, and reads 10 file formats offline. Its free web reader at speakcove.com/text-to-speech brings all 10 voices to the browser, with no sign-up. Below: what each costs, what the free versions allow, and where each app is the better pick.

Where Peech Does Well

  • Kindle book import, added in April 2026, which SpeakCove cannot offer
  • A large voice library: 200+ cloud AI voices and 60+ languages with auto-detection, by Peech's own count
  • Runs almost everywhere: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay, Android, the web and a Chrome extension
  • Well rated: 4.4 stars from about 8,900 US App Store ratings, and recent reviews praise its support team

Where Peech Falls Short

  • No price list on its website or App Store page: plans only appear on the in-app paywall, and the App Store shows Premium price points from $3.99 to $99.99 without billing periods
  • Paid plans are an allowance, not unlimited: new audio counts against a monthly budget, and extra credits are sold separately
  • Auto-renewing plans, including a weekly one (reported at $6.99, or $363.48 a year if kept); trials charge automatically unless canceled 24 hours before they end
  • Audio is generated in the cloud, so new documents need an internet connection
  • Uses a sign-in account, and its App Store privacy label lists identifiers that may be used to track you

Where SpeakCove Excels

  • $14.99 once instead of a recurring subscription; the free version has no time limits or ads
  • No account, no email, no analytics or tracking in the app
  • All 10 voices run on your device: reading and speech work offline, with no monthly minute allowance
  • 10 DRM-free file formats in the free version: PDF, EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, DOCX, FB2, CBZ, RTF, TXT and HTML
  • 31 languages, sentence highlighting, sleep timer, widgets and iCloud sync, all free
  • Free Project Gutenberg book store and research-paper search (arXiv, Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex)
  • Document scanner with on-device OCR (Apple Vision)
  • Premium adds 8 voices, background and lock-screen playback, and CarPlay

The Verdict

Pick Peech if you want to listen to Kindle books, need a large voice library or speeds up to 5x, or switch between iPhone, Android, Mac and the web. Expect a subscription: on October 24, 2026, its paywall offered a year (3 days free), six months or a week, Audeus reported $6.99 a week, $19.99 a month or $99 a year in 2026, and paid plans come with a monthly allowance of new audio.

Pick SpeakCove if you mostly listen to your own DRM-free files and want to pay once. The free version gives you 2 voices, 10 formats and 31 languages with no account and no time limits, though playback pauses when you leave the app or lock the phone. $14.99 once adds 8 more voices, background and lock-screen playback, and CarPlay. On a computer, the free web reader at speakcove.com/text-to-speech has all 10 voices.

Because reading and speech run on your device, SpeakCove plays your documents offline, even in airplane mode, and there is no subscription to cancel.

Audeus, a competing reader app, reported $6.99 a week, $19.99 a month or $99 a year in August 2026, and the US App Store lists a $19.99 Premium purchase, so a monthly plan may still be offered in some countries. Peech's US App Store listing shows Premium purchases from $3.99 to $99.99, including $6.99, $19.99, $69.99 and $99.99, without naming the billing periods. Check the payment screen before you subscribe.
Is Peech free?
Peech is free to download, but full use needs a Premium subscription. Peech does not publish its free-tier limits. Audeus reported in July 2026 that the free tier is limited to basic voices with daily usage caps. Paid plans include an allowance of newly generated audio: in an October 2026 App Store reply, Peech's developer put it at 2,000 minutes a month, with replays of existing audio free.
Does Peech have a free trial?
The yearly plan does. On October 24, 2026, Peech's paywall offered 3 days free on the yearly plan and no trial on the six-month and weekly plans. Its subscription terms say you are charged automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a trial or subscription.
How do I cancel a Peech subscription?
If you subscribed on iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name (your Apple Account), tap Subscriptions, choose Peech and tap Cancel Subscription. Peech's terms ask you to cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, and deleting the app does not cancel. If you subscribed on Peech's website, use Cancel Subscription in your Peech account or contact Peech support.
How does Peech's price compare with SpeakCove?
Peech's US App Store purchases run from $3.99 to $99.99. At the $99 a year Audeus reported, Peech costs $297 over three years; at $6.99 a week, $363.48 a year. SpeakCove Premium is a one-time $14.99 (US). It adds 8 more voices, background and lock-screen playback, and CarPlay; the free version has 2 voices. Peech offers far more voices, faster playback and more platforms; SpeakCove costs less and runs offline.
Can Peech read Kindle books? Can SpeakCove?
Peech can: it added Kindle book support in April 2026, and an App Store review is titled "Great for Kindle eBooks". SpeakCove cannot import Kindle books bought from Amazon because they are DRM-protected. It reads DRM-free files in 10 formats, including PDF, EPUB, MOBI, AZW3 and DOCX, plus free Project Gutenberg books from its built-in store.
Does SpeakCove work offline? Does Peech?
SpeakCove reads and speaks on your device, so imported documents play in airplane mode. It only goes online for the book store, paper search, iCloud sync and the purchase. Peech creates audio with cloud AI voices. Audeus reported that Peech can play audio it has already generated offline, but new documents need an internet connection.
Do I need an account for Peech or SpeakCove?
SpeakCove has no account, email or sign-up, and no ads, analytics or tracking in the app. Peech uses a sign-in account. Its App Store privacy label lists email address, name and user ID as data linked to you, and identifiers that may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
